Cait Conley, the Democratic nominee for New York’s 17th Congressional District, was joined by the New York State AFL-CIO and hundreds of members of New York’s leading labor unions on Oct. 17 for a rally and canvass launch.
“Growing up in the Hudson Valley, the daughter of a postal worker and a construction worker, I learned the values of hard work and service to community at a young age — values I’ve carried with me throughout my lifetime of service to our country. That’s why I have the utmost respect for our organized laborers, the hardworking men and women who are the backbone of our communities. I am incredibly proud to have the support of the New York State AFL-CIO, NYSUT, UFT, CSEA, 32BJ SEIU, and so many more of New York’s leading labor unions in this race. In Congress, I will stop at nothing to defend the right to organize, lower costs for working families, protect our public schools, and create a better, more affordable future for the Hudson Valley,” said Conley.
“The New York State AFL-CIO proudly endorsed Cait Conley for New York’s 17th Congressional District, where we represent over 150,000 union members and their families. Cait understands the issues that matter to working people, including lowering costs, protecting public education, supporting critical infrastructure, and investing in public services. As working people have been under constant attack from the administration in Washington, Cait is the voice we need to stand up for our dignity, rights, and respect. That’s why union members have been and will continue to be out in force in the 17th, knocking on doors and making calls to engage our members to ensure a victory on Election Day,” said Mario Cilento, President of the New York State AFL-CIO.
“Cait Conley spent 16 years and six deployments defending this country, and she’s running for Congress because she refuses to sit on the sidelines while it’s being taken apart. She’s a proud product of our public schools, where NYSUT members invested in a student and built a citizen, and now she’s home fighting for the kids and families who need her. Our members know what’s at stake, and we’re going to send Cait to Washington,” said Melinda Person, President of New York State United Teachers (NYSUT).
“We need Cait Conley in Washington. She will protect public education, defend our rights, and fight attempts to undermine our democracy. We will be out knocking on doors encouraging our colleagues to vote for Cait Conley in New York’s 17th Congressional District,” said Michael Mulgrew, President of the United Federation of Teachers (UFT).
“Cait Conley has been a public servant all of her life. And we’re out in the neighborhoods talking about not only her background in protecting this country, but executing her shared vision for Congressional District 17. The communities in the Hudson Valley, from labor to neighbors, deserve a trusted leader to truly represent them. Cait is right for the moment, Cait will win this race,” said Israel Melendez, Vice President of 32BJ SEIU.
