Meet Cleo Ritzen!
Cleo is short for “Cleopatra” … because she actually comes from Egypt!
We adopted this 4-year-old ginger beauty in September after she was flown over from Egypt. Cleo is a Persian mixed with a breed called the Egyptian Mau. Many Persian cats are found as strays on the streets in Egypt and brought to America through rescue organizations. We lost our beloved Persian almost two years ago and didn’t know when we would be ready to get another cat. But as soon as we read about Cleo and her journey to America, we all agreed she had to become part of our family. It was one of the best decisions we have made.
Cleo is different from most cats. She has absolutely no attitude. She never hides. In fact, she follows us around the house. Cleo just wants to be with people. When her human “sisters” Emery and Anna have friends over, Cleo welcomes the attention. She doesn’t mind when 10 girls try to pet and carry her around. Another unusual trait is that Cleo is incredibly fast. We have never had a cat that races around the house at such speed! When you pet Cleo, you immediately notice that her fur is silky soft. She is not only the sweetest, but she is beautiful too.
Recently, we learned that Cleo probably suffers from epilepsy. We now have her on medicine and will always make sure she gets the best care.
Cleo loves to sit on our windowsill and look outside at all the birds and rabbits in our yard. She seemed anxious to go outside so we decided to become “that” family and we bought a leash and harness for her. Now we take Cleo out for a daily walk around the neighborhood. This summer we hope to bring her out to the Rockefeller Preserve. So, if you see us walking Cleo with her pink leash, make sure to stop by and say hi!
