When two people enter into a committed relationship, dreams of building a family often follow. For Westchester-based couple, Kyla and Joseph, their journey to parenthood was filled with love, heartbreak, perseverance, and, ultimately, a miracle. With a lot of love and the help of advanced reproductive technologies, their baby boy Krew burst onto the scene last fall.

From the moment they met, Kyla and Joseph shared a strong connection. They fell in love quickly and discovered they both wanted to have children. The excitement of starting a family came to life when they learned they were pregnant. “We were overjoyed! It was a beautiful thing,” she recalls. But joy soon turned to devastation when complications arose and Kyla was told she had miscarried.

Their heartbreak didn’t end there. After recovering from the first loss, they tried again and conceived once more. Sadly, that pregnancy also ended in miscarriage. “At that point, I felt like our world was crashing,” Kyla reflects. Emotionally fraught, the couple faced a crossroads.

Joseph suggested they consider in vitro fertilization (IVF). While the idea offered hope, it also came with financial concerns. “You think IVF, you think celebrities,” Kyla shared, echoing the common perception that IVF is only accessible to some. However, through her partner’s health insurance, they were able to access fertility care affordably. After researching several clinics, Kyla and Joseph scheduled a consultation at Reproductive Medicine Associates of New York (RMA of New York) – Westchester, a fertility clinic where they found more than just medical support; they found a community that believed in them and their family-building goals.

At RMA of New York – Westchester, the clinical team’s encouragement became a vital source of strength. “It just seemed like everyone there was rooting for us,” Kyla says. The team’s optimism restored her morale and gave her the emotional endurance to move forward.

But the journey was far from over and the path still required resilience, something Kyla and Joseph had built. The first embryo transfer was unsuccessful. The second led to yet another miscarriage. Overcome with emotion, Kyla remembers being panicked and crying. “I just felt honestly hopeless,” she recalls. But Dr. Rachel Gerber, their Board-Certified Reproductive Endocrinologist and Infertility specialist, offered reassurance and strength. “Do not worry,” she said. “Your next transfer, it’s going to work.” And she was right.

The third transfer changed everything. It resulted in a successful pregnancy that brought their son into the world. Their long-awaited miracle had finally arrived.

Now a mother, Kyla looks back on everything they endured with profound gratitude. “It’s a journey. It’s not easy, but it was all worth it,” she shares, beaming. “And I would do it again just to get to him.” Every tear, every moment of fear and despair, had led them to this moment.

Kyla is deeply thankful, not only for her son, but also for the team at RMA of New York – Westchester who supported her through the darkest times. “Everything that was conspiring against me, in a sense, it worked out,” she reflects. Her son, she believes, was always meant to be here. “He is such a special little boy.”
