“Dr. King’s vision is strengthened when we come together and give back to our communities through volunteerism,” said County Executive Robert P. Astorino. “No matter what your age or abilities, there is something you can do – whether it be sorting clothes for kids in need, donating to a food drive or spending time with an elderly neighbor.”
Volunteer opportunities this year will focus on:
• Disaster and emergency services
• Hunger and homelessness
• Children and youth education
• Family services
• Civic and community involvement
• Health and wellness
• Senior services
“The Martin Luther King Jr. Day of Service is a day we can choose to come together as volunteers, inspired by a message of hope and equality to enact positive change by addressing local needs,” said Volunteer New York! Executive Director, Alisa H. Kesten. “This year there are dozens of family-friendly opportunities available, which is a great way to introduce the value of service to youth. We welcome all volunteers to share this dream and help us fulfill Dr. King’s vision of a beloved community.”
