Northwell’s Westchester Hospitals Receive 10 Healthgrades 2025 Distinctions for Specialty Care

Northwell Northern Westchester Hospital (NWH) in Mount Kisco and Northwell Phelps Hospital in Sleepy Hollow received a combined 10 Healthgrades 2025 distinctions for specialty care in medical specialties such as cardiology, orthopedics, critical care and outpatient prostate care.

NWH received six Healthgrades distinctions, including the America’s 100 Best Hospitals for Coronary Intervention Award™, making it among the top five percent of hospitals nationwide for the procedures. NWH was one of only 20 hospitals in New York State to receive the honor. In addition, the hospital received the Coronary Intervention Excellence Award™ and five-star ratings for four conditions and treatments: heart attack, coronary intervention, spinal fusion surgery and treatment of sepsis.

“We are incredibly proud to receive these Healthgrades awards, which highlight the dedication of our team to deliver top-quality care,” said Derek Anderson, MPH, FACHE, president of NWH. “These recognitions reflect nationally recognized care in our community and ensures the best possible outcomes for our patients.”

Phelps Hospital received four Healthgrades distinctions, including recognition as one of America’s 50 Best Hospitals for Outpatient Prostate Care™, placing it among the top five percent of hospitals nationwide for outpatient prostate care. Phelps is only one of four hospitals in New York state to receive the award. Phelps also received the Outpatient Prostate Care Excellence Award™, as well as five-star ratings in hip fracture treatment and outpatient prostate care.

“These distinctions are a powerful validation of the exceptional care our hospital provides to the community,” said Beata Mastalerz, DNP, RN, president of Phelps Hospital. “They represent not just a recognition but a promise to our patients that we are committed to excellence in every aspect of patient care. As a hospital, we are deeply rooted in the community, and our dedication and impact are truly significant.”

In determining its 2025 specialty care awards, Healthgrades evaluated patient clinical outcomes, including mortality and complication rates, at approximately 4,500 hospitals nationwide, focusing on 30 common conditions and procedures.

Healthgrades’ 2025 analysis revealed that if all hospitals as a group performed similarly to five-star hospitals during the 2021-2023 study period, on average, 224,958 lives could potentially have been saved and 141,692 complications could potentially have been avoided.*
