Based on the Washington Irving short story, “The Adventure of the Mysterious Picture,” this evening of immersive theater at Philipsburg Manor unbends reality in the true spirit of Sleepy Hollow.
An evening performance of The Unsilent Picture is perfectly paired with Horseman’s Hollow, also at Philipsburg Manor. In October, the grounds of the historic estate transform into a terrifying landscape where The Legend of Sleepy Hollow lives again. Visitors walk the haunted trail, stumbling along scenes of a town driven mad and keeping an eye out for the Headless Horseman himself!
Across the street at the Old Dutch Church, Halloween enthusiasts will enjoy afternoon and evening performances of Irving’s “Legend.” Master storytellers Jonathan Kruk and Jim Keyes cast a spell with the tale of Ichabod Crane, Brom Bones, Katrina Van Tassel, and the Headless Horseman. Live organ music adds to the spine-tingling atmosphere.
The blockbuster event The Great Jack O’Lantern Blaze kicks off at Van Cortlandt Manor on September 28 and now runs through Thanksgiving weekend. New additions this year include a medieval castle guarded by a flock of jack o’lantern owls, an entire set of zodiac symbols made of pumpkins, and a working windmill. The photo ops never stop! Complete with synchronized lighting and an original soundtrack, this is a one-of-a-kind experience for your fall bucket list.
And no Halloween would be complete without a visit to the home of the author of the season’s most enduring tale. On weekends in October, join the spirited celebrations at Washington Irving’s Sunnyside. Tour the cottage, make Halloween-themed crafts, go on a scavenger hunt, and take in a shadow puppet performance.
Don’t miss your chance to make magical memories and have ghoulishly good times this season. Tickets for these events are on sale starting September 4 at hudsonvalley.org – book early before they sell out!
