A writing lesson came to life for students in Mary Greene’s 6th grade Writing Studio class at Hillside Elementary School in Hastings-on-Hudson when Darren Tipton, CEO of Paris Baguette, visited their classroom on January 8, 2026 after being inspired by a student’s letter.
As part of a writing unit, students wrote letters of appreciation to people or organizations they admire, focusing on research, clarity, and meaningful communication. Student Grayson Chiu chose to write to Paris Baguette, praising the brand’s products and its partnership with Earthday.org’s Canopy Project to help combat deforestation.
Grayson’s letter stood out to the company. Shortly after it was received, Carmelina Seyfert, Executive Assistant to Tipton, reached out and helped arrange a special visit to the class. Tipton surprised students with a visit, and the famous mochi donuts mentioned in the letter.
During the visit, students asked thoughtful questions about leadership, business, sustainability, and product development. The experience highlighted the real-world impact of writing and demonstrated how student voices can spark meaningful connections.
Paris Baguette’s visit also reflected the company’s broader commitment to giving back. The brand partners with City Harvest, donating unsold products at the end of each day to help nourish community members in need. This year, Paris Baguette also joined forces with No Kid Hungry, launching a national campaign to help ensure children across the country have access to the food they deserve.
