Westchester Progressives Return to Reinvigorate Grassroots Organizing and Accountability in Politics

At a time when many Americans – including many residents of Westchester County – are experiencing extreme and growing inequality, economic insecurity, injustice and marginalization, a group of local activists is reigniting a grassroots movement dedicated to advancing bold progressive change in Westchester County.

Westchester Progressives (WP) has officially relaunched with a renewed mission: to advance economic and social justice, protect civil rights, and ensure that government serves the interests of the people, not political donors and corporations. WP will work to build people power, support progressive candidates who challenge the status quo, and advocate for policies that promote equity, accountability, and collective well-being.

“Across the country, people are realizing that our communities are strongest when everyday people come together to make change,” said Donny Khan of Westchester Progressives. “That’s why we’re excited to share that Westchester Progressives is back with a goal to strengthen grassroots organizing and supporting candidates and causes that are focused on equity, integrity, and a vision for a more just future.”

WP’s return comes as progressive values gain momentum nationwide following key victories in New York, New Jersey, Virginia, and beyond. Organizers aim to channel that momentum into long-term, local action by supporting movements that address the core issues shaping life in Westchester, including economic insecurity, protection for vulnerable communities, civil rights, community-focused investment, and holding elected officials accountable to their constituents.

“This is a critical moment in our democracy,” added Haley Pilgrim of Westchester Progressives. “When people organize around shared values of justice, inclusion, integrity, meaningful change becomes possible. We’re ready to rebuild that movement here in Westchester.”

The group’s first public convening is planned for early December, with details forthcoming. Additional opportunities for involvement will be announced in the coming weeks.
