The Westchester Community College Foundation announced that DeCicco & Sons will receive the Corporate Citizenship Award at the Foundation’s 2026 Transforming Futures Together Gala, recognizing the family-owned company’s longstanding commitment to education, food security, and community investment across Westchester and Putnam counties.

Founded in 1973, DeCicco & Sons began when John DeCicco, Sr., convinced his family to purchase a small neighborhood grocery store in the Bronx, where he had worked as a delivery boy. More than five decades later, the company remains family-owned and operated, serving the region through 11 stores, 2 more on the way, all while maintaining a reputation for quality, service, and deep local roots.

That sense of responsibility to the community has shaped DeCicco & Sons’ approach to corporate citizenship.Through its partnership with SUNY Westchester Community College and the WCC Foundation, the company has focused on reducing food insecurity by providing seasonal grocery assistance and local pantry resources during periods of financial strain. This work recognizes that when basic needs go unmet, students face greater challenges staying enrolled and progressing academically.

“DeCicco & Sons brings a thoughtful approach to corporate citizenship,” said Dr. Belinda S. Miles, President of SUNY Westchester Community College. “The DeCicco family understands the important role local businesses can play in supporting institutions that serve working students and families.”

John DeCicco, Sr., joined the Westchester Community College Foundation Board in 2018 and has been an active supporter of initiatives that address food insecurity and student success. DeCicco & Sons has played a key role in the college’s annual Thanksgiving Dinner Giveaway, providing turkeys and groceries for students and families during the holiday season. The company has also supported the college through in-store point-of-sale donation campaigns and other community-focused efforts.

“Our partnership with SUNY WCC is rooted in a simple, shared mission: taking care of our neighbors,” said John DeCicco Sr. “It is a privilege to support the Foundation’s work in food security and to invest in the future of the students and families who make our community so vibrant.”
