The Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Breakfast Committee and The Village of Hastings-on-Hudson Recreation Department hosted the 14th Annual Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Community Breakfast on Monday, January 19, 2026, at the James Harmon Community Center, bringing together residents, leaders, and community members to honor the life, legacy, and enduring message of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.
This annual event serves as a meaningful opportunity for reflection, unity, and recommitment to Dr. King’s principles of justice, equality, and service. Thank you to our distinguished speakers and guests, including former Vice President and Presidential Candidate Kamala Harris, Congressman George Latimer, NYS Senate Majority Leader Andrea Stewart-Cousins, New York State Assembly Member Mary Jane Shimsky, Westchester County Legislator David Imamura, Greenburgh Town Supervisor Paul Feiner, Greenburgh Town Council Member Ellen Hendrickx, Mayor Tom Drake, Keynote Speaker/Village Trustee Malaika Sundberg, and Village Trustee Douglass Alligood whose remarks highlighted the ongoing importance of civic engagement, compassion, and collective action in today’s world.
The Village of Hastings-on-Hudson also congratulates this year’s Community Service Honoree, the Hastings-on-Hudson Public Library, in recognition of its longstanding commitment to education, inclusion, and community enrichment. In addition, the Village commends all the student winners and participants who submitted thoughtful and creative entries for the Martin Luther King Jr. Peace Essay and Art Competition, which continues to highlight the voices and talents of Rivertowns youth. This year’s competition was especially meaningful with the introduction of a new Spoken Word category, offering students an additional platform to express Dr. King’s message of peace, justice, and hope through powerful personal expression.
