Christ Church San Marcos will open its doors for justice on Saturday, June 28 at the 4th annual Day of Defiant Hope.

All residents are invited to the family-friendly event, from noon to 3 pm, at the church, 43 South Broadway. There will be free food (BBQ and veggie options) and music. No donations will be solicited.

Representatives from the WESPAC Foundation, Indivisible, Hearts and Homes for Refugees, Working Families Party, the Ossining Micro Fund, Midnight Run, the Community Food Pantry of Tarrytown and Sleepy Hollow, Khalifa, Lower Hudson Valley DSA (Democratic Socialists of America), and other organizations will be in attendance to share about their missions.

During the event, Rivertown residents will have the opportunity to learn about these organizations, and discover ways they can volunteer, if they wish. The goal of the event is to encourage residents to take action to tackle the challenges we face, and remain vigilant in efforts to bring forth justice.

This year, Day of Defiant Hope will honor Lisa Kosan, president of the Community Food Pantry of Tarrytown and Sleepy Hollow. This organization serves a vital need in our community. Each month, the food pantry feeds more than 500 families described as food insecure, meaning they cannot reliably afford to eat.

“With all the madness and uncertainty going on right now, it is easy to feel like there is nothing we can do to make things better,” says organizer John Zeiger, a 15-year member of the Christ Church community. “We actually have a lot of power to change things, both in our local community and in the world.”
