Tarrytown, Sleepy Hollow and Shared School District Collaborate to Make Streets Safer for all Users

The Village of Tarrytown, the Village of Sleepy Hollow, and the Public Schools of the Tarrytowns are collaborating on the development of a Comprehensive Safety Action Plan throughout 2025 to prevent serious injury and death on roadways. This project is made possible by the U.S. Department of Transportation Safe Streets and Roads for All (SS4A) program and funded through the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law. Residents are encouraged to join Public Workshop at 6pm on Thursday, March 20, 2025 at the Tarrytown Senior Center

The Comprehensive Safety Action Plan will identify the community’s traffic safety concerns, locations and intersections to address, and possible solutions to employ. Input from residents and traffic collision data will result in an implementation plan to guide future investments and make the communities eligible for additional funding opportunities to improve traffic safety.

Between 2019 and 2023, 26 people were seriously injured and 3 people were killed in crashes in the area covered by the Action Plan. This plan will identify improvements with the greatest opportunity to reduce severe crashes using proven safety measures that can reduce serious injury and death.

Throughout this project, public input will directly guide the plan’s findings and priorities. Two ways to contribute to the plan are through the online survey currently in circulation, and by participating in the public meeting taking place at the Tarrytown Senior Center on Thursday March 20, 2025 from 6 – 8pm. The survey is available in both Spanish and English, and Spanish language interpretation will be available at the public meeting.

Event Date and Time: March 20, 2025, 6-8pm

Location: Tarrytown Senior Center, 240 West Main Street, Tarrytown, NY 10591
