On Friday March 14th, Senator Shelley Mayer visited the residents of the NYS Veterans Home at Montrose to share homemade St. Patrick’s Day cupcakes and Valentines made by her constituents at her annual “Valentine’s for Vets” card drive. Speaking before the residents, Mayer thanked them for their distinguished service, shared St. Patrick’s day greetings, and answered questions from the group about issues of importance to them. She was joined by the Home Administrative Specialist, Annette Alicea, and staff of the home. Residents praised the staff for their hard work caring for the residents, veterans, and veteran spouses. Mayer was also joined by Chester Edwards, a member of the Home’s Board of Visitors, and Chair of Mayer’s Veterans Advisory Committee.
Mayer said, “I am deeply grateful to all those who answered the call to defend our country, and I am thrilled to celebrate St. Patrick’s Day with them, as well as share these homemade Valentines. I cherish every opportunity to spend time with the veterans and hear their stories and concerns. It is an honor to host the ‘Valentine’s for Vets; drive again this year and to personally thank the veterans and their families who reside at Montrose.”
