New York State Senator Pete Harckham visited Ossining High School (OHS) on Thursday, Jan. 9, and participated in a swearing-in ceremony hosted by the school’s chapter of Civic Leaders of America (CLA), a student-run organization dedicated to promoting civic engagement among young people. OHS student and CLA member Kaymbri Wells was the emcee of the event and administered the oath of office to Harckham, along with Ossining’s CLA President Kiran Royce.

During his visit to OHS, Senator Harckham met with Civic Leaders of America club members and engaged with more than 50 juniors and seniors, discussing the role of state government and how individuals can get involved to impact change. In response to questions from the students, Harckham addressed a wide range of policy issues, including climate change, reproductive freedom, and diversity in schools.
