Red Cross Responds to Support 27 People in Lower Hudson Valley Last Week

The American Red Cross, Metro NY North Chapter is helping 27 people after two emergencies in Rockland County and Westchester County between December 9 and December 16, 2024.
The Red Cross responded to help people affected by the following disasters in Rockland County:
  • One household (two individuals) after a fire on Birchwood Avenue in Nanuet (12/15/24) 
The Red Cross responded to help people affected by the following disasters in Westchester County:
  • Seven households (25 individuals) after a fire on Maple Street in Yonkers (12/14/24)*
*In coordination with the Yonkers Office of Emergency Management, the Red Cross supported a shelter at the Police Athletic League for two nights, providing a combined 29 overnight stays as well as meals and other care items for displaced residents. The shelter is now closed. Any residents in need of assistance should call 877-RedCross (option 1).
In each instance, the Red Cross Metro NY North Disaster Action Team provided emergency assistance, including financial assistance, to meet the families’ immediate needs. The Red Cross also typically provides information packets regarding recovery resources and guidance, cleanup kits, comfort kits with personal care items, snacks, waters, and other items as needed.
Red Cross caseworkers will continue to work with families to connect them with additional resources for long-term recovery needs.
