Project MOVER – the e-bikeshare service for Westchester River Towns – is launching in Croton on July 9th. All Village residents are invited to join in the celebration and fun as the program gets underway. The ribbon-cutting will feature local leaders, test rides, and participation info.
The kick-off will happen on July 9th at the Grand Steet entrance to Dobbs Park at 11 a.m. To learn more about Project Mover click on https://projectmoverbikeshare.com.
In Croton there will be Project Mover hubs at the Croton-Harmon Train Station, the Grand Street entrance to Dobbs Park, upper Grand Street near Holy Name of Mary Church, the sidewalk in front of Maple Commons, South Riverside Avenue near Oneida Avenue, and the Croton Free Library. Each hub will have 5 or 6 bikes which are accessed via an app and QR code.
Project MOVER in Croton is part of a regional program which began in the summer of 2024 in the Village of Ossining and has now been expanded to the Town of Ossining, Tarrytown, Sleep Hollow and, as of July 9, Croton. Dobbs Ferry is expected to join soon. The regional aspect of the program means you can pick up a bike in Croton but drop it off at a hub in any of the other participating communities.
Project MOVER is run by Drop Mobility in partnership with Shared Mobility, Inc. It supports New York State’s climate goals by providing clean mobility options. The pilot brought 50 e-bikes and 11 hubs to Ossining, recording 1,459 trips over 106 days. Funded by NYSERDA via the Clean Transportation Prize initiative, the system aims to reduce car trips, improve air quality, and offer a fun way to travel.
In addition to our Board of Trustees, Croton’s Bicycle and Pedestrian Committee and Sustainability Committee have each been involved in review and briefings as the project has developed in Croton over the last year. An instructional video has been filmed and will be posted soon.
Bicycling safety is an important priority of Project MOVER in Croton. On July 12th, at 10 a.m. in the Community Room of our Municipal Building, Project Action is sponsoring a special Smart Cycling Class. There is no cost, but it is important register if you want to participate. Here’s a link for all the information on the class including registration: https://bikeleague.org/class-registration/?event=a3dQl000000xm2D.
Said Croton Deputy Mayor Len Simon, “We’re very excited about the launch of Project MOVER in Croton, and are grateful to everyone in our community who has made this possible, as well as to our neighboring communities and the Project MOVER team, all of whom have so helpful in getting us to this point.”
“This marks a major milestone in expanding micromobility across the Westchester Rivertowns,” said Alex Maccallini, Project Manager at Shared Mobility Inc. “Bikeshare is a powerful connection to jobs, services, retail, and recreation. This expansion strengthens Project MOVER’s broader mission by pairing with initiatives like the E-bike Incentive Program, which makes e-bike ownership more affordable. Together, these tools are transforming how residents, commuters and visitors move, making sustainable, accessible travel options a reality throughout the region.”
“We’ve seen the difference these bikes made in Ossining last year—not just in terms of transportation, but in building stronger, more connected communities,” said Dipesh Dar, COO of Drop Mobility. “This next chapter of Project MOVER is about bringing that energy to even more people, and we’re proud to support this powerful regional vision.”
