Ossining MATTERS Education Foundation Welcomes Three New Board Members

Ossining MATTERS Education Foundation is proud to announce the appointment of Braulio Carrero, Catherine Cioffi and Aaron Spring as the newest members of its Board of Directors. These accomplished individuals bring a wealth of experience and a shared commitment to education, community and student enrichment.

Ossining MATTERS Board President Gina Marie Balog-Sartario said: “I am thrilled to welcome Braulio, Catherine, and Aaron to the Board. Their diverse expertise, passion for our mission, and dedication to the Ossining community will be invaluable as we continue to support and enhance educational opportunities for our students. We are excited for the fresh perspectives and energy they bring and look forward to the positive impact they will have on our organization.”

Meet Our New Board Members

  • Braulio Carrero, MBA, JD, is the Growth Officer, V.P. of Business Affairs & Special Counsel at Urban Health Plan, Inc. He drives the organization’s long-term growth by setting strategic goals, evaluating business operations, and fostering partnerships. Braulio lives in Ossining with his wife, Joanie Depool, and their four children, all of whom currently attend Ossining schools: Jade (17), Zara (15), Penelope (9), and Braulio (6).
  • Catherine Cioffi, JD, currently serves as the Communications Director and Senior Advisor to Westchester County Executive Ken Jenkins. Previously, she held the same role under Westchester County Executive George Latimer and Acting County Executive Richard Wishnie. Before joining the County, Catherine led communications efforts for Mercy University and worked as a broadcast journalist for prominent outlets such as WCBS 880AM.  She was the Vice President of the Upper Elementary Ossining PTA. She is married to Robert Torrieri, and they are the proud parents of three sons who attend the public schools—Edward (13), Nathaniel (13) and Quentin (12).
  • Aaron Spring, JD, is an Associate Director for the Northeast Division of an M&A firm. Aaron coaches basketball within the Ossining community and is passionate about literacy. Aaron enjoys volunteering in the Ossining community and working with Ossining students on goal setting, career paths, and financial literacy.

Carrero said:   “I am truly honored to join the Board of Directors of Ossining MATTERS. Our school district is home to students of rich cultural backgrounds and immense potential. I am deeply committed to supporting our students and ensuring they have the resources, opportunities, and encouragement they need to succeed. This work is about empowering every child in Ossining to reach their full potential and creating a future where all of our students feel seen, valued, and supported in their journey.”

Cioffi said: “Joining the Board of Ossining MATTERS is an incredible honor. As a fierce advocate for public education, I am deeply passionate about creating meaningful opportunities for the students of Ossining—opportunities they truly deserve. I am excited to contribute to enhancing learning experiences and empowering the next generation to reach their full potential.”

Spring said: “I look forward to serving on the Ossining MATTERS board and supporting our school district’s efforts to educate our children.”

The Ossining MATTERS Board of Directors also includes Vice President Caroline Turner, Treasurer Katharine Burke, and Rebecca Raymond, with Mirry Capio serving as General Counsel.

Founded in 2003, Ossining MATTERS is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization dedicated to enriching and enhancing educational opportunities for students in the Ossining School District. The Foundation funds innovative programs and projects that go beyond the scope of the district’s budget, reaching students from preschool through high school in academics, cultural arts, and health/athletics.

Ossining MATTERS relies on the generous support of the community to fund its initiatives. Through key events like the annual September Run/Walk on the Old Croton Aqueduct, the Foundation raises funds to provide meaningful learning opportunities for students.
