Westchester Disabled On the Move (WDOM), a leading advocate for people with disabilities, can help. On February 17 from 2-4pm at the Riverfront Library, 1 Larkin Center, Yonkers, WDOM and Westchester County Legislator Shanae Williams will present a free program to show residents how they can get the most from their healthcare coverage.
The Community Health Advocacy program (CHA) has been a leading voice for New York’s health care consumers, providing free, one-on-one assistance and community training to help people find and use health insurance and care.
“We thank Westchester County Legislator Shanae Williams for allowing us to bring this important program to her constituents in Yonkers,’’ said Maria Samuels, Executive Director of Westchester Disabled On the Move. “This educational program is for people of all ages who need assistance with better navigating our healthcare system. WDOM’s staff is available to help advocate for people on health insurance issues.’’
Attendees will have the opportunity to ask questions about their healthcare issues.
Here’s how WDOM and CHA recently helped one client:
87-year-old Ethel Constantino is on a fixed income. Medicare was not covering her medical bills. When she tried to enroll in Medicaid to help pay for them, she was told her income was too high. Westchester Disabled On the Move was able to help Ethel join a pooled trust, and she is now eligible for Medicaid. “This has reduced my financial burden, and I no longer have to worry about being able to afford the medical care that I need,’’ she said.
