On Thursday, November 21, Hillside Food Outreach hosted its 2nd annual Lights of Hope bridge lighting event at The Sailhouse in Tarrytown, bringing the community together in a powerful display of support for hunger relief. More than $11,000 was raised to further the Westchester nonprofit’s mission to deliver high-quality, nutritious food to thousands of low-income and limited mobility families, seniors, and the chronically ill each month.
The evening’s highlight was the illumination of the iconic Mario M. Cuomo Bridge in bright orange — the symbolic color of hunger. The striking visual, seen by thousands across the Hudson River, served as a beacon of hope and a call to action against food insecurity in the region.
“We are deeply grateful to everyone who joined us for Lights of Hope,” said Kathy Purdy, Founder and CEO of Hillside Food Outreach. “The need for hunger relief continues to grow, and this event was an important reminder of the difference we can make when we come together. The bridge lighting shone a light on the many families, seniors, veterans, and individuals who depend on our services.”
The event honored Westchester County for its steadfast partnership and commitment to addressing food insecurity, which impacts thousands of residents. Susan Weisman, Westchester County’s Food Security Coordinator & Educational Advocate, also presented Hillside with a Proclamation recognizing the organization’s tireless efforts to provide nutritious food to the region’s most vulnerable.
Hillside continues to rely on community support to deliver groceries to neighbors in need. “Every act of support, whether through sponsorship, donations, or volunteer work, brings us closer to a hunger-free community,” noted Purdy.
