New York State Senator Pete Harckham announced today that the Village of Briarcliff Manor has received a $100,000 State Senate grant for the upgrade of the HVAC system at the municipality’s library and community center.

The funding is part of the $2.3 million municipal electrification funding Harckham secured for communities in the 40th Senate District. The grant was funded through the Community Resiliency, Economic Sustainability, and Technology (CREST) program.

“The building that houses these important facilities is one of the oldest structures in the village,” said Harckham. “There is an urgent need for up-to-date, reliable heating and air conditioning so that the building can continue to reliably and safely serve the public during many community activities. In addition, the upgraded system will be more efficient, save the taxpayers money and be climate friendly.”

“The Village of Briarcliff Manor is grateful to Senator Harckham for his generous support in securing $100,000 through CREST funding for the much-needed HVAC upgrade at our library and community center,” said Village Mayor Steven Vescio. “This facility serves as a vital resource for our residents, hosting countless programs, public meetings throughout the year, and acts as our emergency cooling center when needed. This HVAC upgrade will improve energy efficiency, support our climate goals, and ensure that this beloved community space remains a comfortable and sustainable space for generations to come.”

The popular building is one of the most often used municipal spaces in the village, Vescio said. The planned upgrade will reduce HVAC energy consumption by 30 to 40 percent. The upgrade is designed to align with the village’s broader ambition of supporting sustainability through tangible energy reductions, the mayor added.

Harckham announced in 2023 that $2.3 million in CREST grant funding was available to local municipalities for various improvement and infrastructure projects, including downtown improvements and new public safety equipment, all of which would help residents without impacting local property taxes. The funding is administered by the Dormitory Authority of the State of New York (DASNY) to support community and economic development.

Harckham has delivered more than $30 million of State Senate grant funding to municipalities and nonprofits in the 40th Senate District since taking office in 2019.
