During Peekskill’s first Guns to Garden Tools event, which will take place on Saturday, June 28th from 4:30-5:30 PM at Peekskill Regeneration Farm, 800 Main Street, Peekskill, metal from firearms that were turned in to the Peekskill Police Department will be melted and forged into garden-tools. These garden-tools will be used by community members as they expand or create vegetable and pollinator gardens across the city.
One of the founders of RAWtools Buffalo will forge the garden-tools at this Peekskill event. RAWtools is a national movement that transforms firearms into garden-tools.
Building on this event, community groups, local artists and neighborhood youth of all ages will work together to create reflection gardens. Community-based art and benches decorated by neighborhood youth will help create green gathering spaces that are conducive to reflection, dialogue, and creative imaginings.
This community event is free and open to the public. Bring picnic chairs and blankets. Light refreshments will be served.
