The Holocaust & Human Rights Education Center in White Plains has announced a new resource for teachers to assist them in teaching about the Holocaust and related topics including human rights, antisemitism, discrimination, racism and genocide.

The Kaidanow Family Mini-grants for Teachers program is funded through the support of the Loewentheil family in honor of Joseph and Ellen Kaidanow of Harrison, and Jerry and Ellen Kaidanow of New Rochelle. Joseph is the son of Holocaust survivors, Jerry and Ellen Kaidanow, and his wife Ellen is a member of the HHREC GenerationsForward Speakers Bureau.

The goal of this program is to enrich student learning experiences, subsidize special programs and help to meet instructional needs for schools not otherwise supported by their budgets. Grants will be awarded to teachers working in public, private and parochial schools in the Lower Hudson Valley.

Applications will be reviewed by the HHREC Educators Program Committee and HHREC Director of Education, Steven Goldberg. Grant applicants will be required to submit a one-page summary statement and an evaluation at the completion of their projects from materials suitable for replication submitted to HHREC. Grant applications opened on Dec. 15 and deadlines for submission of proposals and notification of awards will be made on a rolling basis. Notifications of reviewed applications will be responded to within one month of their receipt.

For more information and to apply, send an email to sgoldberg@hhrecny.org, call HHREC at 914-696-0738 or visit hhrecny.org.
