The Historical Society Inc., Serving Sleepy Hollow & Tarrytown, is pleased to honor Bill Balter, co-founder and principal of WBP Development, and Luke & Patrick Sheeran, owners of Beekman Ale House, with Preservation Awards on Friday, September 12, 2025. The wine tasting party and awards program is from 7 to 9 pm on the grounds of the 1848 Jacob Odell House, One Grove Street, Tarrytown.
Conferring the Preservation Award is an important component of the Society’s annual fundraiser. Proceeds of this year’s silent auction will go directly to our featured project, the much-needed restoration of the Odell House porch. In addition to the wine tasting, the evening features savory bites and sweets contributed by many local restaurants, and access to the Odell House’s expansive permanent collection of artifacts, art and historical documents, and our current exhibition on The Sixties.
Tickets are $100 for members and $125 for the public. Information about special donor levels and greetings for the honorees is available on the Society’s website: https://www.thehistoricalsociety.net/events/2025-preservation-awards-and-wine-tasting/
Mr. Balter and his firm restored, adapted and expanded the former YMCA building in the heart of the Main Street Historic District in Tarrytown while preserving the historic façade and providing affordable housing for our community. Additionally, we applaud his dedication to honoring the requests of the New York State Historic Preservation Office to include a display of historic photographs and to sponsor free historic-themed lectures for the public.

Luke and Patrick Sheeran, proprietors of Beekman Ale House, preserved and maintained the historic character of the façade of their building on Beekman Avenue in the heart of Sleepy Hollow. Since opening in March 2021, the pub has become a staple for its pizza and beer and as a welcoming community gathering place.
Recent Preservation Award honorees include Tarrytown Trustee Thomas Mitchell, Sleepy Hollow Trustee and Deputy Mayor Denise Scaglione, environmental and historical stewards Donald and Margo Stever, and the Hudson Valley Writers Center. Additional honorees include Congressman and former Westchester County Executive George Latimer for his work to secure funding for the restoration of our beloved lighthouse; the late Richard Rose, Tarrytown Village Historian and a force for historical accuracy and preservation in our villages; community champion JoAnne Murray, president and owner of Allan Block Insurance; the late local legend Armando “Chick” Galella; the Philipse Manor Eagle Restoration Committee; and Paul and Maria Birgy, who are restoring the Acker-Forkill House in Tarrytown.
