Sometimes one act of kindness can reverberate across great distances and affect many.

This year’s food drive reached a whopping 800 pounds – the equivalent of over 700 meals for families in need, according to Feeding Westchester, a non-profit organization dedicated to helping people with food insecurity.

Due to the generous spirit of the students and staff of Briarcliff Middle School and the greater Briarcliff community, this donation surpassed last year’s donations, which reached 493 pounds (the equivalent of 411 meals).

The event, which included donations of canned and packaged food, culminated in the annual Thanks & Giving Boutique. Students collected tickets for each donated item and could exchange them for goods, such as food or an activity.

The following clubs participated in the Thanks & Giving Boutique:

The Greenhouse Club made one dozen delicious pizzas, thanks to the generous donation of dough from Lucio’s Pizzeria in Pleasantville.

The Nature Club offered a “Tree of Thanks” decorating craft, where students wrote what they are thankful for on paper leaves and glued them on a paper tree.

The International Club gave out a recipe book filled with cookie recipes from around the world.

The Bear to Bear Club had a cookie decorating station.

The Wellness Club offered a wellness bag with chocolates, a tea bag, a mindfulness coloring page and a link to an online meditation.

The Stargazers Astronomy Club gave out holiday decorations made of borax, shaped as stars, as well as holiday-themed decorations, such as candy cane tree ornaments and Star of David decorations.

The Art and Clay Club held a fabric stamp and sticker activity, along with a frame-decorating activity.

Caroline, a sixth grader, handed out home-made chocolate and coconut Brigadeiros, which are Brazillian truffles made with condensed milk, butter and either chocolate or coconut flakes.

Students enjoyed participating in activities, eating delicious food and mingling, all for a good cause and in the spirit of kindness and generosity.
