The Random Farms Kids’ Theater will premiere their inaugural production of The Prom at The Paramount Hudson Valley Theater in Peekskill, Jan 31 –Feb 2.
The Prom tells the story of four eccentric Broadway stars in desperate need of a new stage. When they hear that trouble is brewing around a small-town prom, they know that it’s time to put a spotlight on the issue…and themselves. The town’s parents want to keep the high school dance on the straight and narrow—but when one student just wants to bring her girlfriend to prom, the entire town has a date with destiny. On a mission to transform lives, Broadway’s brassiest join forces with a courageous girl and the town’s citizens and the result is love that brings them all together. Winner of the Drama Desk Award for Best Musical, The Prom expertly captures all the humor and heart of a classic musical comedy with a message that resonates with audiences now more than ever.
This production features two casts with nearly 40 performers and continues Random Farms’ commitment to highlighting challenging and topical works with its Edge program for teens. “In our current social and political landscape, it is refreshing to be able to tackle a piece that is so joyfully and brashly inclusive of everyone. Love is love is love, and this show is a shining example of how communities can come together to support everyone, no matter who they are,” says director (and Random Farms Artistic Director), Sarah Seabrooke. “It’s also funny as heck, and full of fantastic Broadway belting – so there’s something for everyone,” adds Seabrooke.
