The Rye Arts Center Awarded $422,000 New York State Grant to Build New, State-of-the-Art Arts Campus in Rye

The Rye Arts Center (RAC) is proud to announce that it has been awarded a $422,000 Capital Projects Grant from the New York State Council on the Arts (NYSCA) to support the design phase of The RAC’s widely anticipated Campus Expansion Project. The highly competitive grant represents a significant endorsement by New York State of the project’s vision and community impact, bringing the organization one step closer to creating a transformative cultural destination that will serve children, families, artists, and residents for generations to come.

This bold new vision is designed to meet growing demand for arts programming while strengthening The Rye Arts Center’s role as a cultural and educational resource for Rye, Westchester County, and beyond. When completed, RAC’s new campus and sustainable structure will be home to state-of-the-art art studios, makerspace and digital media labs, a dedicated wing for preschool arts, and expanded programming for senior arts. The new campus will also include a flexible performance space with professional lighting, sound, and seating, as well as a contemporary gallery to host regional exhibitions. Perhaps most unique of all, the campus project will create two new acres of public green space, including a sculpture garden, outdoor studio, and performance lawn.

“New York’s powerful arts and culture sector is a formidable asset,” said Governor Kathy Hochul. “Our continued investments in museums, theaters, and art centers generate incredible returns — sparking innovation, boosting local economies, driving visitors, and making us the global epicenter of arts and culture.”

“This grant is a powerful signal — from New York State and our entire arts community — that artistic and cultural expression can and will thrive in Rye for generations to come,” said Adam Levi, Executive Director, The Rye Arts Center. ”This grant accelerates the project’s evolution from aspiration to action, and for that, we are deeply grateful to the Governor, NYSCA, and all of our local supporters.”

“The Rye Arts Center is a cornerstone of arts and culture in our community,” said Mayor Josh Nathan. “This significant investment from New York State underscores the importance of this project and reflects confidence in its potential to benefit Rye residents and strengthen the whole community.”

Congressman George Latimer said, “Congratulations to the Rye Arts Center on being awarded a well-deserved New York State Council on the Arts grant. The expansion, once completed, will help grow and strengthen this important institution while providing a long-lasting investment in Rye. I hope this project continues to grow the incredible work being done at the Arts Center, and I look forward to seeing the progress of the expansion.”

State Senator Shelley Mayer said, “I am delighted that the Rye Arts Center has been awarded this important funding to support and expand its outstanding work in our community. For decades, the Rye Arts Center has enriched our community with its exceptional arts education, creative programming, and opportunities. This funding reflects the New York State Senate, Assembly, and Governor’s strong commitment to ensuring that the New York State Council on

the Arts has the funding it needs to continue supporting local art communities. I am deeply grateful to the Rye Arts Center for its continued dedication to advancing the arts in our Rye community.”

Assemblyman Steve Otis said, “Congratulations to the staff and board of the Rye Arts Center for being awarded this highly competitive state grant for the center’s campus expansion project. The Rye Arts Center has been providing a wide variety of engaging arts programs and activities to Sound Shore residents for over 60 years. New York State Council on the Arts grants are a very important source of financial assistance to arts and cultural organizations around the state. I have been an advocate for increased funding for NYSCA and local arts groups in the State Assembly. This grant will be of great assistance to the Rye Arts Center’s exciting new plans.”

The award is part of New York State’s ongoing investment in the cultural infrastructure and recognizes projects that demonstrate exceptional potential to strengthen communities, expand public access and contribute to long-term economic and cultural vitality.

“The New York State Council on the Arts Design Grant makes concrete the vision for the new arts campus, a vibrant cultural hub that will help our community thrive. As a long-time Rye resident, it is exciting to have more availability and access to the Arts in our community,” said Judith Passannante of The Rye Arts Center Board.

The grant arrives at a pivotal moment in the project’s development and will help advance the next phase of planning and design. It also builds upon the growing momentum behind the initiative, which has attracted significant philanthropic and public support from individuals, foundations, community leaders, and government partners who share a belief in the transformative power of the arts. As planning moves forward, the Rye Arts Center remains committed to creating a community asset that reflects the aspirations of Rye residents and serves as a lasting investment in the community. The completed campus will expand access to creativity and culture while strengthening the social fabric and sense of community that makes Rye such a special place.

The Rye Arts Center Campus Expansion Design Phase is made possible by the New York State Council on the Arts with the support of the Office of the Governor and the New York State Legislature. The Rye Arts Center extends its gratitude to its Board of Trustees, donors, community partners, elected officials, and supporters whose vision and commitment have helped advance this important initiative.
