Making Sense of Life, Coming to Terms with the Past in “Sorry, Baby” at Rivertown Film

What does it mean to suffer and survive, without being defined by it?

That’s the backbone of “Sorry, Baby”, which Rivertown Film is presenting on September 10th at the Nyack Center (58 Depew Avenue, Nyack). Written, directed and starring Eva Victor. Victor plays Agnes, an English Lit professor. Some years earlier, something traumatic happened to her that altered her life. The film is arranged non-chronologically, and it opens with Agnes eagerly expecting a visit from her close friend and former housemate, Naomi. Their relationship is beautifully nuanced and rich. Naomi’s visit also brings Agnes’ trauma to the fore. In flashbacks we learn how her life has been separated into “before” and “after”. But Agnes refuses to define herself as either a victim or a survivor. The viewer is invited into a rounded world of vibrant, real faces and places.

Rolling Stone called the film “an amazing display of someone knowing how to get their voice and vision across.”

Director Nancy Savoca (“Household Saints”, “The Twenty-Four Hour Woman”, “Dog Fight”, “True Love”) will lead a discussion after the movie.

The film begins at 8pm and doors open at 7:30pm. Tickets are $13/General Admission, $11/Students &  Seniors, and $9/Rivertown Film Members.
