Jazz Forum Announces August–September 2025 Shows

Jazz Forum continues its 8th anniversary season with an exciting slate of performances in August and September. From internationally touring jazz legends and rising stars to interactive Jitterbugs concerts for kids, the programming spans styles, generations, and venues throughout the region. Indoor weekend shows continue at the Jazz Forum Club, while free outdoor concerts enliven scenic riverfront parks in Tarrytown, Dobbs Ferry, Sleepy Hollow, Lyndhurst, and Ossining.

August 15 – Bill Warfield & Hell’s Kitchen Funk Orchestra

Led by trumpeter Bill Warfield, The Hell’s Kitchen Funk Orchestra is a group comprised of some of NYC’s most sought-after Broadway and studio musicians. They mix adventurous, modernistic pieces, jazz-tinged salsa and post-bop hipness. Jazz Times calls Warfield a “top-rate craftsman, perhaps one of the best on the scene.”

Flugelhornist Mark Morganelli collaborated with several renowned Brazilian musicians to record 28 tunes by 10 different Brazilian composers, resulting in 2018’s double-CD, Brasil! He’ll feature midi-accordionist and vocalist Eddie Monteiro, guitarist Roni Ben-Hur and drummer and vocalist Nanny Assis as they evoke the Brazilian spirit along the Hudson Riverfront.

August 20 – Ryan Sands Quartet

Ryan Sands is a passionate, energetic drummer on the rise. A Connecticut native, he’s part of the critically-acclaimed Christian Sands Trio, and is the primary drummer,  composer and member of the NY-based music collective Altus. He’s about to release his second album as the leader of his own group.

August 21 – Sarah Jane Cion • Steps Behind Quartet

Sarah Jane Cion’s brilliance was recognized by jazz legend McCoy Tyler who said she “caresses the piano with sensitivity and love, and the colors she uses demonstrate her gift and vision.” She’s won major nationwide competitions, performed internationally, appeared on NPR‘s “Piano Jazz,” and organized the Yonkers Library Jazz Band.

August 22 – Gina D’Soto

Gina D’Soto is a rising star redefining Cuban music on the global stage. NY-based, she captivates audiences with her authentic blend of R&B, pop, and Cuban traditions, creating a sound that feels both timeless and groundbreaking. Her music celebrates cultural diversity, part of the new wave of Cuban artists.

August 25 – Gerry Malkin Quintet

The Gerry Malkin Quintet is the quintessential, hard-working, NYC-area group that plays top-notch music, while going under-recognized in the competitive, crowded metropolitan marketplace. Leader and tenor saxophonist Malkin studied with Dave Liebman, Frank Foster and Bob Berg and has performed with Tito Puente, Lew Soloff, Ray Vega and Harvie S.

Inspired by the emotionally direct compositions of Rodgers and Hart, Cole Porter and other great composers of the Great American Songbook, Naama has established herself as a prominent voice in the NYC jazz scene. With an urbane, elegant sound, Naama’s sensitive interpretation and crisp phrasing have become her signature style.

August 28 – Sangha Tierra 
Sunset Jazz at Lyndhurst

Sangha Tierra is an 11-piece band mixing world and Latin musical influences to perform socially and spiritually conscious material. “Sangha” in Sanskrit means a spiritually-connected community and “Tierra” in Spanish means earth. Their goal is to create a world community spiritually connected through music which they perform in several languages

August 29 – Vincent Herring Quartet – Bird Lives!

Celebrating the late, great Charlie Parker’s 105th birthday anniversary, one of music’s top contemporary saxophonists, Vincent Herring, will lead his quartet in a tribute to the man who helped revolutionize jazz. With his fiery, soulful sound, Herring has recorded over 20 albums as a leader and over 250 as a sideman.

September 3: Brian Charette Trio

New York City organist/pianist, Brian Charette, has established himself as a leading voice in modern jazz. Charette is a Hammond U.S.A, Hammond Europe, I.K Multimedia, and Casio endorsed, Cellar Live recording artist. Brian was also the winner of the 2014 Downbeat Critics’ Poll “Rising Star: Organ” award and 2015 Hot House Magazine’s “Fan’s Decision Jazz Award for Best Organist.”

When The Jazz Forum acquired our new Hammond organ in 2022, there was only one group we could ask to debut it: Mike LeDonne’s Groovers. For over 20 years, LeDonne was at the organ to lead The Groover Quartet’s popular weekly “grits and gravy” jazz gig at Smoke in Manhattan. He brings that sound back to Tarrytown with an outstanding group of top-flight musicians: Eric Alexander, Paul Bollenback & Kenny Washington!

September 7: Leonieke Scheuble Organ Quartet

Leonieke Scheuble is proof that the future of jazz is now. Introduced to the Hammond A-100 organ by Joey DeFrancesco and gifted her own Hammond A-100 by Dr. Lonnie Smith, the 20-year-old Leonieke displayed a rare talent for jazz improvisation and blues long before turning 10, and recorded her first two albums before she was 15.

She performs regularly at many of New York’s top jazz venues, often with a remarkable 97-year-old bassist extraordinaire Bill Crow.

Grammy-nominated pianist Christian Sands has played professionally for nearly 25 years, growing from child prodigy into a sophisticated jazz musician and composer. Now 36, the New Haven native has long displayed a deep understanding of post-bop and swing traditions and his most recent album, Embracing Dawn, his 11th as a leader, is a multi-faceted expression of loss, healing and triumph. Embracing Dawn earned a 4-star rating from Downbeat, which called the recording “extremely impressive.”

September 14: Amina Figarova Group

From Azerbaijan, New Orleans and New York, Amina Figarova is an internationally-influenced (and recognized) composer, pianist and bandleader of her remarkable sextet.
In 2018, she composed a suite for her group and a children’s choir and performs it with Liberia’s Matsiko World Orphan Choir, 24 at-risk children from West Africa.

September 19–20: Antonio Hart Quartet

Award-winning pianist and composer Brandon Goldberg has been playing piano and making music since he was three years old. Downbeat has praised his “unassailable technique, advanced harmonic understanding, a deep sense of swing and, most impressively, a clarity and plethora of ideas executed to near-perfection.”

With a deep, versatile voice, Jamile Staevie Ayres leaves her mark wherever she goes. Her unique phrasing is influenced both by her Brazilian roots and by jazz greats like Sarah Vaughan and Carmen McRae. In addition to two albums, Jamile has received high praise for her live performances internationally and at New York’s top venues, including Mezzrow, Smalls, Birdland and Jazz At Lincoln Center, where she opened for Rosa Passos, Kenny Barron and Ron Carter.

September 30: Jazz Forum Student Ensemble
