Friends of Music Concerts continues its 71st season with the skilled and adventurous WindSync wind quintet, Sunday, Oct. 20 at 3:00 p.m. at Sleepy Hollow High School, Sleepy Hollow, N.Y. Directions are here.
These “revolutionary chamber musicians” (Houston Chronicle) are passionate about showing off the uniquely wide-ranging sonorities of the wind quintet.
Their charismatic and personal performance style supports their three-pronged mission of artistry, education, and community-building.
The day after this concert, WindSync will participate in Friends of Music Concerts’ Partnerships in Education program with a day of coaching and mentoring at Blind Brook High School.
They are Garrett Hudson, flute; Noah Kay, oboe; Anni Hochhalter, horn; Kara LaMoure, bassoon; Graeme Steele Johnson, clarinet.
The program they are presenting in Sleepy Hollow includes several arrangements by LaMoure: Nadia Boulanger’s Prelude (arr. LaMoure), Mozart’s Serenade in C minor, K. 388, (arr. Rechtman), Boulanger’s Three Pieces (arr. LaMoure), Elliott Carter’s Quintet (1948) and Viet Cuong’s “Flora.”
All audience members are invited to a light post-concert reception to meet the artists. The reception is sponsored by FOMC Vice President Keith Austin and Treasurer Marc Auslander.
Friends of Music Concerts is extending a special offer for this engagement. Patrons who have never been to an FOMC concert may obtain a free ticket – just stop at the ticket desk before for concert.
WindSync launched an international touring career after winning the 2012 Concert Artists Guild Victor Elmaleh Competition and the 2016 Fischoff National Chamber Music Competition. They have appeared in concert at Ravinia, the Metropolitan Museum of Art, the Library of Congress and Weill Recital Hall at Carnegie Hall.
In demand for their ability to embed in communities, WindSync works with local partners to craft musical events for cities out of range of large arts organizations.
Winner of the 2022 Fischoff Ann Divine Educator Award, the ensemble regularly coaches at training programs nationwide, collaborates with youth orchestras, and performs for thousands of young people each year.
