Friends of Music Concerts continues its 71st season with the Balourdet Quartet and Adam W. Sadberry, flute, Sunday, Nov. 3 at 3:00 p.m. at Sleepy Hollow High School, Sleepy Hollow, N.Y. Directions are here.
The Balourdet Quartet is acclaimed for their vibrant energy and masterful blend of technical precision and emotional depth, which brings a fresh perspective to both beloved classics and modern compositions.
The group’s unique closeness and willingness to take creative risks earned it the 2024 Avery Fisher Career Grant, as well as Chamber Music America’s 2024 Cleveland Quartet Award.
They are presenting a special collaboration for this concert with Adam W. Sadberry, a master flutist who is a winner of Concert Artists Guild’s 2021 Victor Elmaleh Competition and is also known as an educator and coach.
The Balourdet musicians are also enthusiastic participants in Friends of Music Concerts’ Partnerships in Education program, coaching Westchester County public school music students at no cost to the school district.
The program they are presenting in Sleepy Hollow includes:
- Joseph Haydn: String Quartet in D Major, Op. 64, No. 5 “The Lark”
- Amy Beach: Theme and Variations for Flute and String Quartet, Op. 80 (with Adam W. Sadberry)
- Bedřich Smetana: String Quartet No. 1 in E minor, “From my Life”
Please note that traffic is very busy in the area in the fall so patrons should leave extra time for travel. All audience members are invited to a light post-concert reception to meet the artists. The reception is sponsored by Buffy Aronstein of Sunlit Travel.
