“Badland Butterfly” by Local Playwright Selected for NY Theater Festival

Local playwright Loretta Oleck’s latest play, Badland Butterfly is a twenty-minute psychological thriller selected for inclusion in the NY Theater Festival of Short Plays, set to premiere February 13-16th at the Hudson Guild Theater in NYC.

Oleck is known for her thought-provoking plays that delve into complex themes of class, stereotypes, and the pursuit of dreams. Her full-length play, Paper Chains, was named a semi-finalist in the Gary Marshall Theater’s New Works Festival in Los Angeles and a finalist in the Henley Rose Playwright Competition for Women, among other honors. Her works have been performed at numerous venues ranging from the Westchester Collaborative Theater in Ossining, The International Human Rights Festival at The Tank Theater in NYC, to the Cork Arts Theater Festival in Ireland.

Badland Butterfly is a psychological drama that explores the fragility of identity and the dark roads we travel in the quest to become what we dare only dream. With a Hitchcockian twist, the play promises to keep audiences on the edge of their seats. Directed by Missy Flower, a Westchester-based director who specializes in new works, the production is already creating buzz in the theater community.

The cast features KJ Denhert, the award-winning NYC-based musician, bandleader, songwriter, guitarist, and vocalist, making her theatrical debut in Badland Butterfly. Denhert, has shared stages with artists such as Alicia Keys and Roberta Flack, and she brings her powerful stage presence to the role. Badland Butterfly will be showcased as part of the NY Theater Festival’s annual short play competition, with performances scheduled for February 13 at 9:00pm, February 15 at 12:00 pm and February 16 at 8:30pm.
