Sunday Activities From Philipse Manor Hall: A Walking Tour And A Classical Guitar Concert

On Sunday, November 8, Philipse Manor Hall State Historic Site will offer two events to the public: the Yonkers Waterfront Walking Tour and a classical guitar concert.

The Yonkers Waterfront Walking Tour will depart the museum (29 Warburton Ave. Yonkers, NY) at 1:00 PM and explore Yonkers’ historic downtown area, including the daylighted Saw Mill River, Yonkers Train Station, Yonkers Recreation Pier, the Enslaved African Rain Garden, and more. We’ll cover Yonkers’ history from its early Indigenous origins to the present, with emphasis on the 18th and 19th centuries. If you’ve ever wondered how and why Yonkers developed, and what the downtown used to look like, this is the tour for you!

Tickets for this 1 mile, 90 minute walking tour are $6 for adults, $3 for seniors and students and include admission to the museum. Tickets may be reserved by calling 914-965-4027 or emailing philipsemanorhall@parks.ny.gov.

At 2:00 PM, Philipse Manor Hall has partnered with the Chaminade Music Club of Yonkers to host a free Classical Guitar Concert. The live concert will feature internationally renowned classical guitarist Daniel Conant, accompanied by James Rensink on piano. These two artists have previously appeared to great acclaim in the New York area. Among the guitar masterworks to be performed will be the Rodrigo Fantasy for a Gentleman, and other popular guitar favorites. Sponsored by the Chaminade Music Club of Yonkers. This concert is free and open to everyone. Registration is not required.

Guitarist Conant enjoys a burgeoning career as a performing, recording, and teaching artist in New York City. Daniel’s playing has been heard at venues such as Weill Recital Hall, Symphony Space, and the Morgan Library & Museum. He has performed internationally in Italy, Austria, Belgium, Mexico, and Canada, where he was a prizewinner at the Hamilton International Guitar Competition. Recently, he has appeared in concerts hosted by the Ekmelic Society in Salzburg, Austria, The Village Trip Festival in NYC; and the Staunton Music Festival in Virginia. A champion of new music, Daniel has premiered works by composers Alba Potes, William Anderson, and Jonathan Dawe, among others. In October 2023, he released his first album, a program of music for flute, viola, and guitar. His second album, Bed of Creeks and Coils, was released in August 2026 on New Focus Recordings.

Rensink (piano) is a world-renowned musician who has performed in over 25 countries, and each of the fifty United States, with many of the world’s best-known artists. While he has performed at Carnegie Hall, the Kennedy Center and many famous venues, Mr. Rensink is one of the only artists ever to be heard at Lincoln Center as a leading baritone, pianist, composer and conductor. Among his honors is a special citation from the Congress of the United States and his selection to be the classical artist for the dedication of the Flight 93 memorial in Shanksville PA on its tenth anniversary.
