Important lessons in fire safety came to life for Dows Lane Elementary School students during a visit from members of the Irvington Volunteer Fire Department.

During the annual visit, firefighters taught students what to do in the event of a fire, reviewed how to stop, drop and roll and discussed how to call for help when needed. The experience gave students an opportunity to learn important safety practices directly from members of their local community.

“This annual event is a highlight of the year,” Principal Andrea Kantor said. “This year, like all others, we had a number of students who said they want to be firefighters in the future. We are so appreciative of the firefighters for joining us each year!”

The visit provided students with practical knowledge they can use to help keep themselves and others safe while encouraging them to Be Engaged learners, putting the Irvington Way into practice through an important connection with their community.
