Communications Workers of America District 1 Endorses Cait Conley for U.S. Congress

The Communications Workers of America (CWA) District 1 today proudly announced its endorsement of Cait Conley for Congress in New York, backing a candidate who has demonstrated her dedication to fighting for working families and citing her strong leadership and working class background, as well as her dedication to service to the American people.

“CWA District 1 is proud to endorse Cait Conley for Congress!” said Dennis G. Trainor, CWA District 1 Vice President. “Her story is intertwined with our nation’s; she knows our fight because she was raised in it, and she’s built her life in service to this country — and she’s done it with integrity. After two years of broken promises by Rep. Mike Lawler to his constituents, we need a true leader in this office who will fight for our members and their families — not just for those at the top.”

As a military veteran, Counterterrorism Director for the National Security Council, and Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency staffer, Conley has demonstrated throughout her career a commitment to public service and to the safety and security of both our communities and our Democratic process. Her record reflects a belief that government should work for the people it serves and that working men and women deserve leaders who will stand up for their interests.

The union expressed disappointment in the 17th Congressional District’s current Representative, Mike Lawler, citing in particular votes to cut federal funding for Medicaid and Medicare, which will further cause private insurance costs to skyrocket and will negatively affect healthcare jobs that CWA represents. Lawler did this despite repeatedly promising his constituents the contrary.

“This election holds a great deal of promise and opportunity for working people to fight for the country and communities we want to see,” Vice President Trainor said. “And elect legislative leaders who will not just listen to the needs of their constituents, but who are ready to act for their constituents and will work alongside us to build a stronger New York, and a stronger country for all working families.”
