Music lovers now have another reason to visit the Paramount Hudson Valley Theater. Paramount Vinyl Vault, a volunteer-run pop-up record shop inside the historic Peekskill venue, is giving donated records, CDs and books a second life while raising money to support the theater’s nonprofit mission.
The shop was founded by musician and longtime music enthusiast Greg Jacquin, who previously created Marquee Records at the Tarrytown Music Hall. After seeing that volunteer-run record store successfully generate funds for the nonprofit theater, Jacquin realized the concept could work in Peekskill as well.
“I already had the blueprints needed, and we knew that the idea could work because Marquee has been wildly successful in raising money for the Tarrytown Music Hall,” Jacquin said. “Peekskill and the area north is pretty much untouched territory as far as collecting donations.”
Jacquin’s journey into nonprofit record stores began during the COVID-19 pandemic while volunteering at the Tarrytown Music Hall. He spent months traveling throughout Westchester collecting donated records from more than 50 people before organizing fundraising record sales for the theater. The overwhelming response inspired him to create Marquee Records, a permanent volunteer-run shop that opened above the Music Hall’s marquee in November 2021.
Today, Jacquin is bringing that same model to Peekskill through Paramount Vinyl Vault, where every donated purchase directly benefits the Paramount Hudson Valley Theater.
“Every penny made from selling donated items goes back into the theater,” he said.
Shoppers will find a growing collection of vinyl records, compact discs and books spanning classic rock, jazz, country, classical, pop, metal and folk. Most albums are priced between $2 and $20, making the shop an affordable stop for longtime collectors and newcomers alike.
The success of the store depends on donations from the community. Residents can donate records and other physical media by contacting Paramount Vinyl Vault to arrange a pickup or by dropping items off when the Paramount box office is open. Donations are tax deductible, and contributors can receive documentation for tax purposes.
Currently, Paramount Vinyl Vault operates as a pop-up shop before and during select performances at the Paramount Hudson Valley Theater. The shop is located in the theater lobby just outside the accessible restrooms.
As the collection continues to grow, Jacquin hopes more residents will consider passing along albums that have been sitting unused for years.”We hope that we can find a good home for those LPs gathering dust in your basement,” he said.
