The Public Schools of the Tarrytowns will host the 20th Annual Sleepy Hollow Jazz Festival on Friday, April 10 at 7:00 p.m. in the Kusel Auditorium at Sleepy Hollow High School.
Held during Jazz Appreciation Month, the festival will bring together seven high school jazz bands from across the region for a full day of performance, collaboration, and learning. The evening concert will also feature guest artists Christopher McBride (saxophone), Peter Lin (trombone), and Dennis Mackrel (drums), who will work with students throughout the day and perform as part of the event.
A highlight of this year’s festival is the third annual Regional Vocal Jazz Ensemble, led by vocalist Amy London of The Royal Bopsters. Students from Mamaroneck, Valhalla, The Harvey School, and Sleepy Hollow will come together for a day-long rehearsal, culminating in a featured performance during the evening concert.
Throughout the day, participating bands will perform for one another and take part in clinics led by the guest artists, receiving feedback and guidance from professional musicians.
Selected ensembles will be invited to perform during the evening concert, with recognition also given for outstanding soloists and sections.
Participating schools include Valhalla, Blind Brook, Ardsley, Port Chester, Mahopac, Pleasantville, and Sleepy Hollow High Schools.
The Sleepy Hollow Jazz Festival continues to serve as one of the region’s largest student-centered celebrations of jazz, reaching more than 100 students from across three counties.
The event is made possible through the support of the Foundation for the Public Schools of theTarrytowns, along with contributions from D’Addario and the Sleepy Hollow Performing ArtsBoosters.
