Basketball fans had much to enjoy during the 27th Annual Howard Godwin Sleepy Hollow Holiday Basketball Tournament.

Six teams – Sleepy Hollow, Lincoln, Mamaroneck, Hendrick Hudson, Ossining, and Yonkers High School – competed from Thursday, Nov. 29 through Saturday, Dec. 1. The Sleepy Hollow Girls’ Varsity team made it to the finals but lost to Mamaroneck, 47-31.

The Sleepy Hollow Boys’ Varsity gave it their all and had a tough loss against Ossining, with the final score of 57-56, but they were victorious over Hendrick Hudson in the consolation round with a 47-42 victory.

Boys’ Head Coach Christopher Starace said, “The tournament gets bigger and bigger every year. This was the third time we faced Ossining and there is a rivalry. We look forward to the games.”

The Tournament is sponsored by School Board President Mimi Godwin and her family. “This started with a five-year commitment,” said Godwin. “My husband, Howard, always wanted Sleepy Hollow to have its own tournament.”

Mamaroneck took home the First Place Boys trophy under the leadership of Tyrone Carver, the Head Boys’ Basketball Coach who graduated from Sleepy Hollow High School in 1997, earning the male Athlete of the Year award.

T-3 Sleepy Hollow Girls’ Varsity Team placed second in the 27th Annual Howard Godwin Sleepy Hollow Holiday Basketball Tournament.
