Fifteen Irvington High School students have been selected for Area All-State music ensembles by the Westchester County School Music Association for its 2018 Area All-State Festival Concert held November 8 at SUNY Purchase.
“The Irvington Music Department is very happy and proud that so many IHS students have been selected to perform at the 2018 Area All-State Festival,” music teacher Alan Goldberg said. “Their love of music and diligent work have catapulted them to the top tier of young musicians in Westchester County.”
Senior Chrysmine Wong (violin), junior Sebastian Ramos-Roux (violin) and sophomores Mary Cuff (cello), Taylor Lee (cello) and Eesha Thaker (violin) were selected to perform with the string orchestra. Senior Sohum Gala (violin), and sophomores Richard Ackerman (viola), Anika Manchanda (violin) and Robert Yun (viola) will perform with the symphony orchestra, while senior Ethan Chang (trumpet) will perform with the band. Meanwhile, senior Jagger Clark (bass), juniors Sarah Garcia (soprano), Maxwell Riseman (tenor), Ella Roth (soprano), and sophomore Noah Kossowsky (bass) were selected to perform with the chorus.
Chorus director Janet Gillespie and band director Debra McCumber applauded the students’ passion and accomplishments.
“These students are incredibly hardworking and truly make our department and school so proud,” said McCumber.
Performers were chosen by the Westchester County School Music Association based on auditions at last spring’s New York State School Music Association Solo Festival. WCSMA, the county arm of NYSSMA, sponsors the Area All-State Festival each year for eligible Westchester sophomores, juniors and seniors.
