Through a Window Briefly Open: Myanmar 2016
January 4, 2025 - January 29, 2025
FreePhotography Exhibition, Ossining Public Library, January 4th-29th.
In February of 2016, Croton acupuncturist/ herbalist and photographer Ron Hershey and his wife spent eight remarkable days traveling around Myanmar during its all-too-brief decade of opening to the west, after more than five decades of repressive authoritarian rule. This exhibit is the product of that extraordinary visit to a part of the world that few westerners ever see. The hauntingly beautiful images, of urban scenes, village life and portraits, have a heightened lingering resonance in the wake of the subsequent brutal military coup that curtailed Myanmar’s nascent democratic movement and human rights.
