Excelsior Symphony Orchestra Fall Concert

“Inspired by America” continues this year’s America250 celebration, with guest conductor Ariel Rudiakov. Debussy and Rachmaninoff were fascinated by American rhythms and culture. Start your concert journey with Debussy’s serene “En Bateau” (On a Boat), which mimics the gentle lapping of the waves. Rachmaninoff’s Piano Concerto No. 2, with dynamic soloist Drew Petersen, contains one of the most passionate, famous themes in classical music. Grofé and Bernstein musically expressed aspects of the American soul. Grofé’s “Grand Canyon Suite” paints a musical picture of a day at one of our great natural wonders. Bernstein’s Symphonic Dances from “West Side Story” punctuates that great score with finger snapping and shouts of “mambo!”
