Irvington High School junior Max Bloom earned an honorable mention in the senior division at the prestigious New York State Science Congress, hosted by the Science Teachers Association of New York State. The competition took place on June 8 at the Museum of Science and Technology in Syracuse, New York.

Bloom, a dedicated member of the Science Research Program, presented his original research project, “The Structure Biology of TCR-pMHC Complexes in Autoimmune Disease,” in the category of Computational Biology. His work was one of 70 student projects selected for presentation via a poster board. Bloom qualified for the opportunity in April after his project was named one of the top four overall projects at the Tri-County Fair.

“We are incredibly proud of Max for advancing to the state competition,” Science Research Program teachers Amy Ma and Nadia Parrika said. “His enthusiasm and passion for science is well deserving of this recognition.”
