Briarcliff Hook & Ladder 75th Anniversary Display & Reception on Sept 24th

Briarcliff's Hook & Ladder has been involved in commujnity affairs for 75 years, right up to this August's Community Blood drive. On Saturday, September 24th, the Briarcliff Manor Hook & Ladder Company will open a special display at the Briarcliff Manor/ Scarborough Historical Society on the lower level of the Briarcliff Library. Historic photographs, memorabilia, records, blueprints and firemen’s gear will all be included, along with a written guide to the materials.

The purpose is to illustrate H&L’s 75 years of service to the community and the security and fellowship its work has provided. Like most fire departments in Westchester, Briarcliff’s is all-volunteer, and exhibits a high level of “esprit de corps.” This friendship and fidelity has been a major focus of its history right through to the present day.

The display will premier on Saturday, September 24, with a reception from 4:00 to 6:00 pm, and will include remarks by the chief and Village officials as well as refreshments. It will tell the story of a small town volunteer organization from its start in 1936, through World War II to the present, encompassing fires and other emergency situations, celebration and loss.

The H&L is paying homage to the past and those who have come before. They would very much like to share this celebration and salute to their forbears with other fire personnel, local citizens and the general public.

Reception reservations are not necessary. After the reception, the display will be open on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays from 11:00 am to 2:00 pm and by appointment, through October 22nd.  For more information call 914-941-4393.
