A new dance studio has opened in the center of Tarrytown. Its Director, Carina Vocisano, has created innovative modern dance classes for teenagers and adults. Dance on the River also specializes in teaching choreography. Ms. Vocisano states, “Most dance studios focus on a specific dance technique. Our students are taught choreographic skills such as core dance vocabulary that cuts across all forms of dance, and choreographic principles of design. Dancers learn how to integrate other art forms with dance-making such as how to design stage backdrops and costumes and create sculptures for set pieces.” Dance on the River accepts students with no prior experience as well as those who have danced in the past or are currently dancing.
Vocisano studied modern dance at Bennington College and jazz dance at Les Ballet Jazz de Montreal. She has also completed graduate studies at the Dance Education Laboratory at the Harkness Dance Center in NYC.
