Ossining & Cortlandt Students Help Stepinac High School Capture CHSAA Bowling Championship

On Monday, December 16, Archbishop Stepinac High School’s Varsity Bowling Team clinched the CHSAA Manhattan-Bronx Championship by defeating Fordham Prep. The team went undefeated in the regular season for the second consecutive year, solidifying their dominance and earning back-to-back championship titles.

The championship-winning team was comprised of four standout student-athletes: seniors Brandon Phillip Linares of Yonkers and Andrew Soto of Ossining, sophomore Maxx Minichino of Cortlandt, and freshman Josiah Gold of Yonkers. Leading the way for Stepinac was Maxx Minichino ‘27, who delivered a stellar performance with a 566-scratch series and a scratch average of 189 in the championship match.

The team is coached by Lisa Cappiello, who is in her sixth-year coaching, and assisted by Anthony Tornatore ’16, who is in his second year as assistant coach.

With this victory, Stepinac will now face Holy Cross High School, the runner-up in the CHSAA Queens-Brooklyn League, on January 14th for a coveted spot in the CHSAA City Championship Finals. The City Championship will take place on January 16th in Queens, New York at Whitestone Lanes.

Stepinac Athletic Director, Michael O’Donnell expressed his pride in the team’s success: “We are extremely proud of the dedication and consistency shown by our bowlers. To go undefeated for two consecutive seasons and capture another championship is a testament to their hard work, teamwork, and focus. We look forward to seeing what they can achieve as they advance to the next stage.”
