A Niche in Delivering Medical Care

Dr. Sundaram Ravikumar, a Vascular Surgeon and resident of Briarcliff Manor, mentioned that he “saw the writing on the wall.” He was talking about patients not being able to see their primary doctors quickly enough and going to local hospital emergency rooms for treatment. They could and often would wait hours at an Emergency Room depending on the severity of their medical condition. “There was a niche for patients to be seen by doctors closer to their homes and in a facility that was open 7 days a week. I opened the first Apple Med Urgent Care in Mount Vernon and the location turned out to be spectacular,” he said. A second Apple Med opened in Dobbs Ferry and recently Tarrytown became the latest destination for Apple Med.

The facility at 131 Central Avenue in Tarrytown is strikingly appealing with a circular design within the 4,000-square-foot office. Five examination rooms, one procedure room, an X-ray room, a laboratory and two dental suites provide patients with a variety of services that require no appointments. The staff on hand are courteous and bilingual.  They are also properly equipped with garments such as Protection lead aprons. Both a doctor and a dentist are present and hours of operation are from 9am until 9pm with the last patient seen at 8:30 pm. Seven-day-a-week medical service is complemented by caring and easy-to-talk-with physicians. River Journal had the opportunity to speak with one of these physicians, Dr. David Lloyd Burns, a specialist in internal medicine. Our first impression of this gentle, soft-spoken and friendly man was a very positive one.  He mentioned treating a wide variety of season-specific illnesses from wintertime upper respiratory and sinus infections to summertime fractures and muscle sprains. He also talked about acute care needs and Apple Med’s ability to quickly transfer patients to major hospitals. The newest added service to Apple Med Urgent Care is their dental care and the full range of dental services they provide.

Most insurances are accepted at Apple Med, and if a patient does not have insurance a $125 fee is applied. To contact Apple Med in Tarrytown and learn more about them call (914) 332-1111. Their Dobbs Ferry location is at 88 Ashford Avenue and they can be reached at (914) 231-7111.
