Don’t let the nickname fool you. Dr. Sean Chillemi, commonly known as “Dr. Chill,” is a voracious reader, avid learner, and is very passionate about his nearly 16-year integrative wellness practice in the heart of his native Tarrytown, Ren-Shen Healing.

Finding the Way

Chillemi grew up reading anatomy books for fun and was a personal trainer in high school and all through his undergraduate education. Though curiosity of the body and how to take care of it have always been part of his make-up, he was on his way to a career in finance and commercial real estate development before that all changed when, at the age of 21, he was diagnosed with malignant melanoma. This health scare was the wake-up call that pivoted Sean’s drive from profits to people.

Someone who goes full force in whatever he believes in, Chillemi became a board-certified holistic health counselor, ingesting a tremendous amount of information about both eastern and western nutrition, meditation, mindfulness, and exploration of the inner self.

Chillemi truly is a blend of East and West. He has traveled far and wide and has gone above and beyond what’s required to understand the intricacies of his field Perhaps most impactful was his time spent in China as part of his clinical Ph.D. program. He, along with seven cohorts, were the first international group in over 750 years to be invited to train at the Holy Realm of the Yellow Court. This special honor to learn about Taoism, or “The Way,” in its birthplace truly opened up his mind and spirit.

The Whole Picture

Part of Taoist philosophy is leading a calm and quiet life, and this is what Dr. Chill embodies and imparts to his patients. His goal is comfort and maintenance. While western medicine is reactive, Chillemi wants people to be preventative in their healthcare.

Folks come into his office for all sorts of reasons. True to the meaning of his practice’s name, Ren-Shen Healing or “healing the spirit of humanity,” whether it’s peripheral neuropathy due to chemotherapy, fertility and reproductive care, or a simple facial rejuvenation, Chillemi looks at the whole of the person and treats them using different modalities, such as acupuncture, cupping, and massage therapy.

Chillemi also integrates herbal medicine into treatment plans, including his own line of sustainably-sourced, hemp-derived CBD products, Dark Star Hemp. He partners with local farms to ensure the highest level of quality, care, and compassion are applied to everything they grow and manufacture.

Chillemi said he has witnessed patients experience “amazing results in stress reduction, sleep quality, and relief of generalized aches and pains caused by systemic inflammation in the muscles and joints.”

Know to Grow

With so many benefits, why don’t more people seek out integrative medicine and therapy? He chalks it up to a lack of knowledge. Educating the public is one of the main reasons he’s decided to start his podcast, “Compounding Wellness with Dr. Sean Chillemi,” which focuses on health, finance, and technology.

When asked how he would converge seemingly disparate topics, Chillemi said, “I believe that these three subjects can be leveraged tremendously in our day and age to empower us to gain both health and wealth, with assistance from technology to maximize our time, our greatest asset.”
