Osborne’s previous album Trouble and Strife took blunt and honest outlook on the U.S. political Climate, while her latest album Nobody Owns You has a more personal and introspective point of view. She reflects on life’s hardest questions, reminiscing on the her past and her future. Produced by Ben Rice (Valerie June, Norah Jones), this reflective record emulates that rich Americana sound, providing a sense of comfort and peace to the listener.

Best known as a multi-platinum singer and songwriter, Osborne began painting while she was unable to perform during the Covid pandemic. “I was looking for a way to represent what it feels like to sing, and through experimenting I found a visual language that approximates the energy, the tenderness, the immersion of singing.”
Joining Osborne on the album is Rice, who adds banjo guitar, along with Cindy Cashdollar on lap steel, Dave Sherman on piano, and Jack Petruzelli on baritone guitar. Backing vocalists Rachel Yamagata and Catherine Russell add tone and texture as they contribute harmonies throughout much of the album. Jill Sobule adds another layer of sound on the upbeat “Child of God” and the hymn-like “Lifeline.” The impactful title track “Nobody Owns You” is a song she dedicated to her daughter. In this song, she reminds her of the power of being a woman, and encourages her to embrace herself for everything she is. She also laments the epidemic of mass shootings in the troubling “Time of the Gun.” Nobody Owns You will be Osborne’s 11th studio album.
