Friends of Music Concerts continues its 73rd season with the Balourdet Quartet, Sunday, Oct. 4, 2026 at 3:00 p.m. at Sleepy Hollow High School, Sleepy Hollow. Directions are here.

Described as “an ensemble unafraid to show its personality” (The Strad), the Balourdet Quartet was awarded the 2024 Avery Fisher Career Grant as well as Chamber Music America’s 2024 Cleveland Quartet Award. In 2026, the Balourdet Quartet was named the inaugural fellow of the Resonance String Quartet Fellowship.

They will open with Brahms’ String Quartet No. 3 in B♭ major, Op. 67, then move into Paul Novak’s vision of the string quartet’s future, Impossible Inventions.

Their program ends with Beethoven’s stirring exploration of pain and healing: String Quartet No. 15 in A minor, Op. 132.

The Balourdet musicians are also enthusiastic participants in Friends of Music Concerts’ Partnerships in Education program, coaching Westchester County public school music students at no cost to the school district.

Please note that traffic is very busy in the area in the fall so patrons should leave extra time for travel. All audience members are invited to a light post-concert reception to meet the artists.

Single tickets are $50 for adults and available here and at the door. Those age 18 and under are admitted free. For discounted admission, there is a season-long FlexSub “choose your own” option: an advance purchase of four or more admissions at $45 apiece, each of which is good for a ticket to any concert.
