The Briarcliff Manor Public Library will be returning to its permanent home at 1 Library Road this spring, with an anticipated reopening to the public of April 20.

The shutdown to replace the building’s HVAC system began last fall, when the library moved to its temporary home at 555 Pleasantville Road in the Briarcliff Corporate Campus.

The length of the closure was due to the size of the infrastructure project that required redesigning the system and replacing pipes and mechanical components, according to the village. Much of the work occurred behind walls and ceilings and could not be done safely while the building was open to the public.

The library, housed in a former train station in Briarcliff’s Law Memorial Park, is also home to the village community center, which is scheduled to open for spring programs on April 6.

Some dates to be aware of:

  • Monday, March 23, will be the last day to select Briarcliff Library (BRI) as a hold pickup location.
  • Saturday, April 4, will be the last day the temporary location is open to the public and the last day to pick up holds.
  • The book drop at 1 Library Road will open on Saturday, April 4. It will take a few days for the staff to check items in, so there will be no fines and there might be a delay in clearing the items from your account.
  • Monday, April 6, through Sunday, April 19, both locations will be closed to the public.

What’s new at the library?

The overall layout and character of the library remain the same, but with fresh paint throughout the building (including some updated colors); new flooring in two discrete areas; and refinished interior stairs.

The Children’s Program Room has been expanded by removing a wall to create a larger, brighter space. This room was frequently at capacity, so the additional space will allow the library to host programs more comfortably and serve more families.

In the meantime:

Alternative ways to access materials during the transition is to make use of expanded digital offerings like ebook and audiobook collections on Libby. Briarcliff kept its number of borrows on Hoopla at 10 while other libraries in the Westchester Library System have seen their limits reduced.

Briarcliff also offers drop-in help and training sessions on its digital features including Kanopy and MediciTV. Contact Kimberly Carlo to book a one-on-one session: kcarlo@briarcliffmanorlibrary.org or (914)941-7072 ext. 3.

The library will post updates on its website, social media accounts, and newsletter. Reach out to Director Kim Naples – director@briarcliffmanorlibrary.org – or 914-941-7072 ext. 6 with questions.
