“All Afternoon”: Book Talk with Susan Kleinman

Join us to hear author Susan Kleinman speak about her novel All Afternoon. Set in a tight-knit Jewish community in 1978, All Afternoon is the story of Marilyn Weisfeld, a once-promising writer who gave up her literary dreams when she got married twenty years ago. Now, she’s too busy raising children and braiding challahs to think about what else her life might have held… until the night an old friend comes to dinner. Bestselling author Henry Goldfarb remembers Marilyn’s early stories. He remembers her. As their bond becomes more complicated, she glimpses a more fulfilling life she could be living—if only she can find the courage to reach for it. Caught between the comfort of tradition and the thrill of new possibilities, she will have to decide exactly what price she’s willing to pay to live bravely, authentically, and without regret.
Susan Kleinman’s writing has appeared in The American Literary Review, CRAFT Literary, JewishFiction.com, House Beautiful, Cosmopolitan, Hadassah, The New York Times, and dozens of other publications in the US and abroad. A graduate of the University of Pennsylvania, she was awarded a Kathryn Gurfein Writing Fellowship at Sarah Lawrence College, where she subsequently taught classes in fiction writing and overcoming writer’s block. Susan is the mother of two grown children, and lives in Westchester County, NY, with her husband. All Afternoon is her first novel.
